8 Days Amazing Uganda Primates Safari

Journey Overview

Spend eight wonderful days on this amazing Uganda Primates Safari trip trekking gorillas, chimpanzee, on game drives through beautiful savanna plains and experience Uganda cultures.

From Entebbe, pass through the beautiful town of Fort Portal, the Crater Lakes region, on your way to the KiBale Forest National Park, where you’ll track and spend some time watching the antiques of primates, including intelligent and energetic chimpanzee bands. Enjoy the spectacular views of the Rwenzori Mountains on the way to the Queen Elizabeth National Park where you meet Africa’s big game animals, and be intrigued by the agile tree-climbing lions.

Continue your journey to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park where you’ll hike across the primeval jungle from Buhoma to Nkuringo via the Kashasha river trail and later trek the elusive, majestic and endangered mountain gorillas. From the gorilla nation, fly back to Entebbe via Kisoro to tell the tales of Amazing Uganda.

Know before you go

This Uganda safari trip starts from Entebbe and drives all the way into Bwindi with a hike across the gorilla forest. From Bwindi you’ll take a local flight back to Entebbe.

This private custom made Africa safari is limited to a maximum of 6 travelers per vehicle, and 30 % deposit on confirmation.

We’ll keen to observe WHO, Government, UWA and our Covid-19 guidelines to ensure yours and our safety during this trip.

This trip requires average fitness to trek the gorillas and chimps and covid-19 operating procedures will be much observed to protect you and the animals.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Travel through Uganda tea plantations to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, you’ll embark on your amazing Uganda Primates Safari with your private driver-guide and travel westwards to Kibale Forest National Park, the primate’s capital of East Africa. This lively town is the base for activities around Kibale Forest National Park. The national park offers one of the most varied tracts of tropical forest in Uganda, 70 mammal species and 13 primate species.

The drive takes 6 hours. After lunch we will shake off the drive with a walk to the ‘top of the world’ along crater lakes which this area is also famous for.

Day 2: Go chimp tracking in Kibale Forest (Kanyanchu)

Wake early for your first Amazing Uganda Primates Safari challenge, at 06h30 Am your chimpanzee tracking day excursion begins after a briefing at Kanyanchu trailhead; you will spend the half day with chimpanzees following them around. While tracking, you will be able to spot different animal species like the Red Colobus, Black and white Colobus, Gray-cheeked Mangabey, Olive Baboon, Red-tailed monkey, and L’Hoest’s monkey among others and different bird species.

After lunch, travel to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a nature walk, rich in biodiversity and beautiful scenery. The wetland is a birder’s paradise with about 138 species. Located outside the park in Magombe Swamp, it also hosts eight species of primates including the black-and-white Colobus, gray-cheeked Mangabey, red-tailed, L’Hoest’s and blue monkeys, and olive baboons. Bushbucks and mongooses can also be found here. The sanctuary was set up to preserve the exclusive environmental features along with the wetland and is managed by the local community.

Day 3: Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Cruise on the Kazinga Channel

Depart Kibale Forest to Queen Elizabeth National Park, ling 1978 sq. Km west of Uganda. Queen Elizabeth National Park harbors a diverse ecosystem with a lovely savanna, fertile wetlands making it home for the big game, 10 primates’ species and a large number of bird species.

After checking in, you will enjoy an afternoon launch cruise along the Kazinga channel. The channel is 40 wide and offers beautiful scenery of hundreds of hippos along the banks as well as different bird species seen when cruising west towards Lake Edward.

Day 4: Search for tree-climbing lions in Ishasha sector

After breakfast you will head for a game drive through Kasenyi sector, watch out for the Albert endemic birds and Cape buffaloes, elephants, and different bird species.

With packed lunch, the amazing Uganda Primates Safari driver will take you to Ishasha sector, very famous for the tree climbing lions. The Ishasha sector is the only other place in the entire world where you will find tree climbing lions apart from Lake Manyara National Park in Tanzania.

Day 5: Buhoma sector – Nkuringo Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

After breakfast, the amazing Uganda Primates Safari travels further south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda’s oldest, largest, and magnificent and most diverse rainforests. This ‘impenetrable’ forest is also home to more than 320 mountain gorillas, 400 species of plants, 120 species of mammals and over 350 species of birds. Continue to the lodge, check-in, and after lunch a ranger guide will escort you on a nature walk.

Day 6: Track mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

After breakfast, at around 7h45 Am, with packed lunch and drinking water your amazing Uganda Primates Safari driver will transfer you to the park headquarters for the briefing on the dos and the don’ts while with the gorillas. You then continue to the forest for the start of the actual gorilla tracking.

It takes a few minutes but you leave with gorilla etiquette. Comfortable shoes and clothes are advised along with packed lunch and a walking stick. Walk and hike this steep and slippery terrain until you meet the family gorilla. Enjoy this one hour allowed in the company of the brilliant giants! Looking into the eyes of one of the magnificent creatures brings home the distressing fact they are on the edge of extinction, and that your presence contributes to ensuring their continual survival.

Depending on the duration of the track you can either relax in the afternoon at the lodge or enjoy another walk around the village or hike up to the highest football field with the breathtaking view ever!

Day 7: Game drive in Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast depart Kabale through the mountainous hillside of Kigezi region, with a glimpse sighting of Lake Bunyonyi famous crater Lake onwards to Lake Mburo National Park. Your amazing Uganda Primates Safari guide will stop at Igongo Cultural Center for your lunch break, learn about the Bantu culture, the Ankole horned cattle and the Ankole Kingdom, after lunch proceed to Lake Mburo National Park.

Evening game drives in search of Zebras, Impalas, elands, warthogs and waterbucks, return to the lodge to enjoy swimming. In the afternoon, proceed to conduct a boat trip on Lake Mburo. You will see lots of birds, hippos, and learn more about the people and history of Lake Mburo.

In the night you will have a chance to see resident Bush babies come for feed. Optional activity safari horse riding.

Day 8: Fly home with unforgettable memories

Returning to Entebbe after a late breakfast anticipated driving time 5 hours on the road. En-route you will pass the equator where a coffee break can be taken and possibly the picnic lunch provided by the lodge. Continue to Papyrus Guest House for refreshment and later transfer to your evening flight outbound Entebbe International Airport.
